Around daRegion

May 11, 2010

Eeriness on the Border

One look at this photo is all it takes to understand my reasoning behind the title of this week's Around daRegion. This photo was taken on a typical Autumn night at my friends house. As a group of us exited his house, we all noticed the eerie look the sky presented beyond the leafless trees. I was fortunate enough to snap this shot just as the sun exited from view to hide behind the hills of west Porter County.

The location of this scene is about a half-mile north of Division Road between Union and Porter Township. This area at the western part of Porter County has been home to some of the most memorable sunsets in the area. Being elevated by the hills of the area makes it possible to see such sunsets for miles.

The barn-like house and the leafless tree shown in this photo may be seen as obstructions but I've always felt that they add to the spooky effect that describes an eerie autumn evening in Northwest Indiana.
